Quoting an old cliché’ ‘that leaders are born’, not all leaders are the same. There are those who serve and succeed while others lead and fall short. A few are still in the leadership scene and their performance shall judge them.
Some leaders rise using their wit and charm, others through a dynasty wielding their power, riches and influence and rule by intimidation. Nowadays, many are calling themselves leaders, but only a few deserve to be called one.
When Dr. XZ B. Dignadice assumes the headship of DepEd, some in the city education community may have been flabbergasted as she is not among those they expect to take the helm of leadership in the Division of Cadiz City. Cadiznons had no idea about her and her leadership and management style.
Unarmed with any political backing as usually happen to executive appointees and being a stranger to Cadiznons, she begins to capture the hearts of the local officials and the education community by showing them what she has as a leader.
Without using a magic wand or spellbinding rituals, Dr. XZ has begun the transformations in the city educational landscape. Prodding the teachers, who get used to being sloppy, to perform better, many have started to become busy. The elderly ones who can not catch up with her work pace opted to retire. Perform, look for another job or retire are the only options for the teachers.
Under her tutelage, school teachers and administrators are outfitted with the needed proficiency and expertise in the discharge of their duty through the conduct of numerous school based and division level trainings and workshops. As an effect, their performance has changed from mediocrity to quality.
Her advocacy to raise the academic performance level of the Cadiz City learners prompted her to require schools to conduct early reviews for the annual National Achievement Test. Gradually, from its dismal academic performance in the past, Deped, Cadiz City has improved its results and recently ascended to the 1st and 4th spot in Nat results regionwide, a feat which no other schools division superintendent has accomplished in the Division of Cadiz City.
The monthly team supervision and staff conferences during her stint, which critics say just a waste of time, effort and resources, have undeniably transformed lethargic classrooms and sleepy schools into vibrant and dynamic educational institutions, and changed the complacent and lackluster teachers into rejuvenated and gleaming educators in their job performance.
A few may have misunderstood her for being forthright and vocal and for mentioning their names if they failed her expectations but others have the wisdom to decipher it as her way of pushing one to work, be productive and contribute to her and others efforts of bringing the Division of Cadiz City to greater heights.
She may be hurting a few in her outspoken comments but one has to take time talking to her and you will discover that behind her tough, steadfast and candid personality lurks the affection of a mother who has no other intention but to help her children learn the value of quality work, be productive and do extremely well.
Indeed, Dr. XZ B. Dignadice has not only transformed the Division of Cadiz City but touched the lives of Cadiznons as well. Others may disagree, but her accomplishments and achievements during her stint as Schools Division Superintendent will speak for it.
